There is good news for more than 1000 inmates of Delhi prisons as they will get hospitality training that will give them the necessary skills to start afresh after they are released from prison.
A a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in this regard between the Prison Department and 'Primerio', an NGO and the classes are slated to begin in the near future. This information was given by a senior prison official.
Steward Service
The training involves a three-month course in steward service. Around 70 percent of the trained inmates are guaranteed to get employment after their release. The five-day classes from Monday to Friday will be conducted in the jail premises for two to three hours before and after lunch in batches. Each batch will have 30 students. Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel said that their aim is to train 1,020 inmates under this programme.
Sanjeevan Project
As it is the responsibility of jail authorities to help inmates to start a new life after being released, such training had also been introduced earlier. The Sanjeevan project was conducted wherein 1,000 inmates got trained to become yoga teachers. It was inaugurated in January after an MoU was signed between the Prison Department and the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) in December last year.
The skill training will help prison inmates to leave their troubled past behind and start life afresh with the necessary skills and renewed hope.
