This girl suffering from autism spectrum disorder has fought all her limitations and passed her board examination with flying colours. Nehal, a science student from Gopi Birla School, Walkeshwar made her parents proud by securing 76.4% in board examination.  

Talking about her success, Nehals mother Seems Tiwari said, “We have always been open about her disorder and never treated her any different.” 

As she was diagnosed with autism while she was three-years-old, she started suffering from speech deficits and other symptoms. 

"We struggled a lot to get admission in a school. Finally we got admission in G D Somani School, where Nehal studied till Class X. She was the first and only autistic child in both the schools," she said. 

With the passion for information technology Nehal wants to take her career ahead in the same field. Talking about having an autistic child, Seems believes that they should also be included in mainstream rather than making them study in special schools. 

Seems said, “Nehal is highly observant and takes up her behaviour from peers. She opines that the disadvantage in a special school setting is that the child lacks exposure and is devoid of interaction in the public space.”

By setting up this example, the family believes that if parents accepts their child’s disorder then it help to motivate the children and take their love for any field ahead. Parents should be confident first so that they can imbibe the same confidence among the children.
