Paul Oakenfold had come to Mt. Everest with a dream of performing at the highest party on earth. It is the beginning of the climbing season in Nepal and the three-time Grammy nominated artist enjoyed his trek to the Everest base camp. On Tuesday, he performed at a height of 5,380 meters (17650 Ft) and set a record.
Oakenfold, who has collaborated with Madonna and U2 in his three decade long career said that he was very excited about this show. He is 53 and has no trekking experience, but he completed the 10 day walk to Everest with a team of yaks and porters to carry the audio equipment needed for the event.
For this show, Oakenfold trained for four months before arriving in Nepal. He said that it was a wonderful trek and he was inspired by the splendid view of the mountains. His show usually draws thousands of visitors, but this one will had only a few members in the audience as the air is so thin that one will run out of breath very easily.
Through this gig, Oakenfold wants to draw attention to the effects of global warming and raise money for charities including Himalayan Trust, Youth Music, Mayor’s Music Fund, and Supporting Nepal’s Children. His funds will also go to the survivors of the 2015 Nepal earthquake which shattered the lives of the people, many of whom are still living in temporary shelter.
