British PM Theresa May appointed Tracey Crouch as the first ever minister for loneliness to tackle the suffering of a growing number of Britons affected by isolation. Last year Jo Cox Commission was set up in honour of the late Labour MP who had campaigned about loneliness. Crouch will be implementing recommendations from the commission.
In the wake of a research that stated over 9 million people feel lonely, while 2,00,000 older people haven't had a single conversation with a friend or relative for more than a month, the Office for National Statistics will help devise a method of measuring loneliness and a fund will be set up to allow the government to find innovative ways to deal with the problem across all ages, backgrounds and communities.
