Bengaluru's chief minister, Basavaraj Bommai, has assured to restore the city's former fame as the "Garden City." He was addressing the people at Lalbagh who had gathered for the inauguration of the Republic Day flower show, based on the city’s history, this year.
The CM said that the city's reputation as the 'Garden City' has taken a knock due to the rampant development taking place in Bengaluru. He promised that the government will do everything in its power to restore that glory by maintaining new and old gardens, like Lalbagh and Cubbon Park, and enhancing the city's natural beauty.
Bommai also mentioned developing specific programs this year for the growth of horticulture farms and that money had been set out for it in the budget. He stated that horticulture will improve productivity and meet all requirements for nutrient-dense food while also increasing the green cover.
He is confident that the state's green reserves will be increased by the administration. He revealed that he had already budgeted 100 crores for the increase of the green cover and added that the hilly region's efforts to restore ecological balance are in progress.
Early visitors of the flower show flocked to the Glass House to see the floral arrangements highlighting Bengaluru's heritage. Between 10 and 12 lakh people are expected to attend the flower display, which is free to the public and runs through January 30.
