Ever thought of edible plates? Imagine eating it after completing your meal. Yes, it is possible and the credit goes to Jerzy Wysocki, an inventor and entrepreneur from Poland who came up with the edible brown plates around fifteen years back. He started Biotrem, a production process of wheat bran tableware which today produces 15 million of such plates every year.
Plastic waste has become a primary cause for environment pollution and with this invention, the usage of plastic plates can be reduced. And the good news is, the European Union has even taken a decision to put a ban on plastic plates and cutlery starting in 2021.
In a conversation with Agence France-Presse, Jerzy spoke about how the edible plates are manufactured as he stated: "To make the plates, we only use wheat bran, which we compress at a precise pressure point and temperature, using a machine made specifically for that purpose.”
Even if you don’t eat the wheat bran plate, it can be decomposed after a month if the weather is humid which makes it a biodegradable product while it can also take a span of two weeks if it rains.
Jerzy’s innovative idea is having a great impact on the environment and now with EU’s decision, the effect is definitely going to be huge.
