Cyber attacks are becoming frequent and numerous companies and people are getting affected, and therefore, Microsoft has decided to infuse artificial intelligence (AI) into its antivirus stack.

To battle, the new-age ransomware cyber attacks like ‘Petya’, Microsoft will power Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (Windows Defender ATP) with its cloud-based security intelligence in its upcoming Windows Fall Creators Update.

Avi Sagiv, Principal Programme Manager, Windows Defender ATP at Microsoft, said in a blog post that this technology involves a smart, interconnected and coordinated defense grid that is more intelligent, simple to manage, and ever-evolving. It aims to prevent and respond to advanced attacks before they could make an impact.

In wake of the cyber attack Petya which has impacted dozens of companies and institutions in the world, Microsoft will not only give companies a full picture of what’s happening on their endpoints but will also enable them to quickly react to threats as they happen. It added that companies will get prompt and easy access to the optics, context, and tools that are needed to quickly investigate and remediate such attacks.

Sagiv, in his post, had written, “Windows Defender ATP will help identify vulnerable areas in endpoints by providing protection score across a wide set of Windows security technologies.”

The update will develop a signature for a new cyber threat for Windows 10 users so that other users can be protected as well as the first victim.
