This year will see the commemoration of 100 years of Sabarmati Ashram and Champaran Satyagrah. Both these have a close link with Mahatma Gandhi.
To observe its importance Indian Railways will start a special train for tourists having historical importance. Starting from Ahmedabad, this 10-days train journey will travel to Bihar covering various destinations having historical significance.
The train is scheduled to depart on June 17 and return on June 26. This train will connect two cities having importance over its link to Mahatma Gandhi. As per a report published in Financial Express, V N Shukla, deputy general manager (tourism), IRCTC said, “June 17 marks 100 years of both Sabarmati Ashram in the city as well as of Champaran Satyagrah in Bihar. Thus, IRCTC has decided to run a train, officially called Astha Special Tourist Train or Gandhi Darshan Train, on June 17. It will be flagged off from Sabarmati station at 8.00 am. The train, having only non-AC sleeper coaches, has the capacity to accommodate 840 passengers. The fare, which will be inclusive of all, has been kept at INR 8,720 per person.”
This train will cover various historical places like Wardha, Motihari, Gaya, Varanasi Allahabad. IRCTC is also planning to run this train on regular basis.
