To ensure that each and every citizen in Maharashtra state gets Aadhaar cards and especially to increase the enrollment of Aadhaar among the children below five years, Maharashtra will set up tabs giving cards in 500 hospitals. This process will start from the next month. Even while the state has received a good enrollment, still when it comes to 0-5 years age group state has gone only 50 %. According to a date, the participation in Mumbai is 94%, in Thane, the coverage is 92%, and in Pune, it's 91%. The overall Aadhaar coverage in the state is 94.5%.
To make it a point the Aadhaar card registrations happen on a priority basis, almost 3600 Anganwadis and 500 rural hospitals will get tabs in the state. As per a report published in The Times of India, “Anganwadis have a reach to a lot of children who may have been uncovered. This initiative will help cover them," said a senior official. There are around 63.30 lakh people in zero to five and five to 18 years age group who are not yet enrolled. After giving tabs to rural hospitals, Aadhaar cards will be given to newborn babies. Aadhaar registration of remaining 42 lakh population is still incomplete in 10 districts of the state i.e. Nanded, Solapur, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Pune, Thane, Palghar, Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban. Schools will also register for Aadhaar cards for those students who still not have cards and also all schools in the state have made it compulsory for all students to have Aadhaar cards.
