Omaima Ali is a seven-year-old girl from Pakistan who unfortunately suffers from a congenital heart disorder. Her parents are keen to come to India for surgery so that their daughter gets the best medical facility. However, there was an impediment- would India give them visas considering the strained relations between the countries.
The family was very relieved and their joy knew no bounds when they were promptly granted their visas. It was the result of efforts from people on both sides of the border. Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf made a call to the office of Indian cricketer and MP, Gautam Gambhir informing him about the girl’s plight.
Gambhir on his part wrote to the Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar requesting him to help the ailing girl. The MEA Minister Jaishankar, in turn, directed the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad to grant the necessary visa to Ali and her parents. The minister then wrote back to Gambhir about his command to the Indian High Commissioner.
Gautam Gambhir was overjoyed and shared the letter on Twitter. He also wrote a poetic tweet in Hindi which touched many hearts. The poem read, “ A little heart called out from the other side..on this side we erased all our boundaries..as she entered she brought with her a sweet and pleasant breeze..it felt as if a daughter has come home”.
Our world needs many more such beautiful expressions of love and humanity.
