We all know of the plastic menace and how major companies throughout the world are trying to limit plastic use with recycled products. However, it has been difficult to secure recycled food-grade plastic.
A French startup Carbios is all set to resolve such recycling issues as it has found a way of recycling even the problematic PET plastics into a pure form that can be used to make clear water bottles.
Enzymatic Process
The company Carbios has come up with this groundbreaking method of using enzymes to break-down, purify, and reuse a wide array of PET plastic waste which currently is very difficult to recycle. The company plans to license the technology to recycling companies as it envisions a circular plastic economy where nothing is wasted. Another advantage is that the company uses the biorecycle method, which is the use of enzymes that entail the consumption of lower temperatures thus reducing energy consumption.
The Recycling Plant
Encouraged by the backing from major corporations like Nestle Waters, PepsiCo and many more which are under pressure to reduce their plastic footprint, Carbios intends to set up the construction of a new recycling plant that will use the biological process to recycle all at once and in a few hours, all plastics such as multicolored plastic, like food trays or polyester shirts which otherwise is almost non recyclable.
This major milestone is a world-first that will lead to a circular plastic economy in which there is no waste thus proving extremely beneficial to the environment.
