India's transportation infrastructure is about to receive a significant boost as the Indian Railways gears up to produce 120 state-of-the-art Vande Bharat trains at the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, Maharashtra. The anticipation surrounding this development is palpable, with many eagerly awaiting the commencement of manufacturing.
This milestone achievement comes after the efforts of Lok Sabha MP Sudhakar Shrangare, who worked tirelessly to ensure the production of India's first indigenous semi-high-speed train began as soon as possible.
The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Russia's CJSC Transmashholding consortium emerged as the lowest bidder, securing the contract to produce the blue and white colored train at a cost of Rs 120 crore per set. Meanwhile, the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and Titagarh Wagons consortium was the second-lowest bidder, winning the contract to produce 80 rakes at a cost of Rs 140 crore for a train set.
The Vande Bharat Express is an icon of the Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India initiatives, introduced four years ago as the country's first semi-high-speed train. The Ministry of Railways - Railway Board invited a Rs 58,000 crores tender to manufacture 200 sleeper versions of 16 coaches of the train and maintain them for the next 35 years. The trains will be manufactured using the present technology developed by the railways, its staff, and factories.
Thanks to the brilliant minds behind the Indian Railways, depots have been strategically placed in six bustling cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jodhpur, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. These maintenance hubs will be equipped with everything necessary to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel for the passengers.
There is great anticipation surrounding the possibility of the new trains that will be made at the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory. The future holds much promise for India's transportation sector as Vande Bharat Express's arrival will usher in a new era of high-speed travel and innovation.
