Chopping down of trees has become quite common among those who look for spaces to build houses, shopping malls, complexes and so on. Many of them even clear areas covered with greenery for parking spaces. In a time where an expansion of infrastructure is escalating deforestation, a family from Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh has set an example for each one of us.
The Kesharwanis’ family house was built around 25 years ago and it was time for them to expand it. However, they didn’t know how to do it as a humongous fig tree was coming in their way. They could have easily axed it in order to enlarge the house but, they chose to build the home around the tree.
The tree is now growing through the middle of Kesharwanis’ expanded house. In a conversation with AFP, Yogesh Kesharwani spoke about the importance of the fig tree as he stated: "We are nature lovers and my father insisted that we keep the tree. The tree is some 150 years old. We knew it was easy to cut the tree but difficult to grow one like it.”
The house used to attract engineers a lot initially. They even visited the Kesharwanis to understand the construction.
Seldom have we seen people coming up with unique ideas to keep greenery intact. The Kesharwanis have today taught us how important it is to safeguard trees because it takes a lot of nurturing and care to grow them.
