Lieutenant General Anil Puri has won many admirers as he became the first serving Lieutenant General-rank officer of the Indian Army to successfully complete France's oldest cycling event - 1,200-km Paris-Brest-Paris circuit.
Ever since the long-distance cycling event started in 1931, more than 31,125 riders have managed to complete Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneur.
This year, the cycling event commenced from the National Sheepfold located in the park of Rambouillet's castle and 6,673 riders participated in it. The new route followed safe roads in the backdrop of the most beautiful forest massifs in France. The difficulty level of the return route was eased this year enabling riders to finish in more favourable conditions.
It is a matter of great admiration and pride that Lieutenant General Anil Puri became the first serving Lieutenant General-rank officer of the Indian Army to complete the cycling marathon successfully. The 56-year-old officer completed France's oldest cycling event - 1,200-km Paris-Brest-Paris circuit on August 23. Indian Army said in a tweet that the officer completed the circuit by "cycling non-stop for 90 hours, without sleep." This no doubt is a remarkable feat by the army officer.
